This site presents the audio – and tape inlay notes – from a collection of home recordings made by Colonel James M Doyle. These were captured from a selection of 34 cassette tapes that span from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, plus two reel-to-reel tapes from the early 1970s. In total, there are over 18 hours of recordings presented here.

They include some tapes made of radio broadcasts that JMD contributed to, and some oral history that he recorded about his time at the Army School of Music. For the most part, these tapes are of the concerts he produced when the family was together for celebrations like Christmas and birthdays.

I’ve dated the recordings based on the dates shown on the tape inlays. If not date was visible, I’ve made an educated guess!

As he frequently made back-up copies, there may be some duplicates and part duplicates – if you spot any, please comment to let me know.

These tapes were digitised, and this site created, to celebrate the 80th birthday of his eldest daughter, Ann, in September 2017.
